Privacy policy

Version 1.1 · Effective 14 October 2026 · Changes: account deletion in the app

This policy explains what information the Varietal Voyagers mobile app (“Varietal Voyagers”, “the app”) collects, why, and what you can do about it. Varietal Voyagers is published by James Suttles (“I”, “me”). If you have a question, write to Sonderlordproductions@gmail.com.

In short: Varietal Voyagers stores your account and the wines you log so the app can work. Your check-ins are private to you. There are no ads, no tracking across other apps, and your information is never sold.

What I collect

Your account

Your check-ins

When you log a bottle, the app stores:

Text read from labels

Reading the text on a label happens on your phone. The app then sends that text to the Varietal Voyagers server to find matching wines in the catalog. The text is used for that search only and is not stored with your account.

The shared wine catalog

If no matching producer or wine exists, you can add one. Producer names, wine names and vintage years you add become part of a catalog that all users can search. These entries are not linked to your account.

What I do not collect

Why I use it

I never sell your information, and I do not share it except with the service providers below, who process it only to run the app.

Camera and photos

The app asks for camera access to photograph a label, and photo-library access only if you choose an existing photo. It uses them only for the label you are logging.

Service providers

How long I keep it, and deleting your account

Your information is kept for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account at any time:

Catalog entries you added stay in the shared catalog, because they are not linked to you.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your information, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it, by email. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under laws such as the GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to complain to a data-protection authority.

Security

Information is encrypted in transit between the app and the server. Each user can read only their own check-ins and photos; label photos are kept in private storage and shown through short-lived links. No system is perfectly secure, but I work to protect your information.

Age

Varietal Voyagers is about wine and is meant for adults of legal drinking age where they live. It is not directed at children, and I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has created an account, contact me and I will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new version number and date. If the change is significant, I will also tell users in the app or by email.
